Project MESA

(Multilingual, culturally responsive, Early childhood, Social communication Approaches) at the University of New Mexico’s Speech and Language Master’s Program.

October 2024

Project MESA is a Department of Education funded grant that aims to increase the number of SLPs skilled in using evidence-based approaches with culturally and linguistically diverse young children who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities. The program provides training in social communication assessment and interventions, culturally responsive and multilingual practices, and team collaboration.

We will be recruiting 4 incoming graduate students to begin in the fall of 2025. We are specifically hoping to recruit multilingual students. Project MESA scholars will receive a generous funding package.

For more information about the program see our Website: https://sites.google.com/view/project-mesa/home

Questions about Project MESA can be sent to Dr. Cindy Gevarter (cgevarter@unm.edu).
